Formed single Stockholm-based holding company in 2001, replacing multinational shares (50% owned by Denmark, Norway and Sweden governments). Formed WOW alliance with Singapore AL Cargo and Lufthansa Cargo in 2002. Split into4 separate divisions (Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Intercontinental) in 2004. Take-over negociations with Lufthansa ongoing during 2008, later abandonned. Announced in 3/10 integration of all operations under a single AOC. 14.29% stake by Norway government planned for resale (announced 4/11, to be completed late 2018). Entered financial problems and was temporarily expected to close down operations on 19/11/12; eventually obtained new loans and continued all services. Announced plan on 30/9/21 to launch subsidiaries SAS Connect and SAS Link with their own AOC (qv). Entered Chapter 11 in the USA on 5/7/22, continuing operations. Received a purchase offer in 5/23 for 60% of its stock from Apollo Global Management, USA. Announced on 3/10/23 that up to 19.9% to be purchased by Air France-KLM for $144.5m, along Castlelake (33%) and Lind Invest ApS; expected to join the SkyTeam alliance in 8/24.
