Alliance renamed AirUnion in 2005 and expected to become a formal single-airline entity (decree signed 2/5/07). Entered into financial difficulties in 8/08 with several lenders stopping services; expected to entered bankrupcy in 9/08 following claim from Ilyushin Finance Company; to be purchased by new holding company set up by Sergei Chemezov (close associate of Vladimir Putin) taking over all carriers of AiRUnion (announced 5/9/08, to be completed mid-2009). AOC suspended with route network and most fleet assets transferred to Atlant-Soyuz (announced 8/9/08, effective 30/9/08), entering bankrupcy in 12/08. AOC revoked on 1/11/08.
