Originally formed as Aeroflot's International directorate. Became a joint-stock company in 1994 when 49% of shares weretransferred to employees, 51.17% kept by the Russian government. 26% of employees shares acquired by Nimegan and Carroll offshore companies on 24/6/00 and renamed Aeroflot Russian Airlines.
