Placed in receivership on 15/2/05. Approached in 5/07 by Aeroflot for a take-over proposal, cancelled. Announced 1/08 that privatization will proceed, planned for sale through tender in 7/08 of 51% of airline value (announcement repeated 8/08), no buyer found. Halved active fleet in 9/08 due to growing financial difficulties. Halted operations on 30/9/09 due to unpaid debts against JAT Tehnika (separate company spun-off from JAT in 2003), resumed ops on 2/10/09. Planned to be reorganized as Air Serbia in 4/2011, later abandonned. Purchase bid received in 10/11 from Baltic Aviation Systems, abandonned 12/11. Announced 22/10/12 to be reorganized with a 49% capital investment from Etihad Airways; formal MoU signed on 17/6/13, purchase completed on 1/8/13; to be renamed Air Serbia (was initially planned to be Jat Serbian Airlines from 15/12/12, then Serbian Airlines effective 27/10/13).

Formed 1/4/47 to succeed 1927-born Aeroput. Privatized in 1992 when State of Serbia took 51% of the shares and sold theothers. Halted all operations on 3/6/92 following UN resolution 757 against Serbia. Planned to be renamed Aeroput were cancelled in 1992. Renamed 7/6/03 to Jat Airways.
