Made initial IPO in 2002. 8% sold by Continental in 2003. Expected to remove 69 aircraft out of Continental feeder network by mid-2007 (decision announced 28/12/05 following failure of long-term contract negociation between CO and ExpressJet). Expected to form a joint-venture ExpressJet Europe based in Cork, Ireland for ACMI operations within EU, plan cancelled. Started to operate as feeder carrier for other (ie. non-Continental) trunk airlines from 9/06. Formed ExpressJet Corporation Aviation division starting ops 31/12/06 with 6 ERJ-145XR (15 planned); formed Xjet.com regional carrier division effective 2/4/07 using 44 ERJ's; whole branded operation to be discontinued 2/9/08. Unsollicited bid received 27/4/08 from SkyWest, abandonned 9/6/08. Eventually purchased by SkyWest (announced 4/8/10, shareholders approved 11/10, financials completed 12/11/10). Merged with Atlantic Southeast Airlines (announced 13/7/11, single AOC granted 18/11/11, dba ExpressJet from 31/12/11). Purchased in 1/19 by Mana Air, a joint venture with United Airlines (announced 18/12/18, completed 23/1/19). Ended its operations for American Airlines in 5/19, for United Airlines (announced 30/7/20) and closed down on 30/9/20. Re-launched limited services on 8/9/21. Spun off an independent carrier in 10/21 with ERJ-145 out of Reno d/b/a "aha" (qv). United Airlines' 49.9% share resold in 6/22. Entered Chapter 11 on 23/8/22. Fully purchased on 23/12/22 by Polaris 8 LLC (same owners as Logistic Air and Global Supertanker), expecting to resume operations in late 2023 with one 777-200ER.

Formed by consolidation of Britt AW, Rocky Mountain & Bar Harbor, initially attempted to be known as Jet Link. Majoritystake taken in 1994 by Mesa AL. Reorganized in 1995. Legal name changed to ExpressJet Airlines following 53.1% acquisition by Continental Airlines' ExpressJet Holdings in 8/2001.
